Hi! Welcome to my site! (I know many of you followed my old site, http://www.forever-families.com.) I’m glad you’ve found me, and I hope you stay. Learn about my books on Amazon, and read a few blog posts; let me know your thoughts and comments! I also welcome any ideas for future posts and love to connect with other therapists (see my Tools for Therapists page) who may want to learn the best ways to help kiddos from hard places.

As my third blog, I am writing this one in a more simple yet informative way. My hope is to encourage families; educate parents, teachers, relatives; and inspire those with past hurts and traumas to reach higher in their healing.

The website also displays my four books for adoptive and foster families. I’ve written a guide for parents in helping their child heal from past trauma and loss; a devotional for moms; and a Bible study for kids. You can learn more about my books on Amazon or THIS page.

I have been a licensed clinical social worker since 1989 after graduating from Florida State University with a Masters in Social Work. Over the years, I have learned numerous treatment modalities (types of therapy) including: Karyn Purvis’ TBRI, Play Therapy, Bruce Perry’s NMT; Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT); Level 2 Trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR); and Internal Family Systems (IFS). I plan to discuss these therapies and ways you can use some of the skills for yourself or within your family.

I have always felt a calling to help children, and over the years settled into working with children and adults who have experienced any level of trauma. Within the past 15 years I have focused more on helping adoptive and foster families in the trenches.
